Yes. The fourth book was perhaps the best of them all so far thus I expect a brilliant movie......though there is a formula that great books make only good films, whereas good books make great films and at times terrible books make superb films. Perhaps I should actually then expect more from the next two films, and oh look I've gone cross eyed.
Er have fun at the premier if you're going. PG out
Having been to see the preview last Sunday I can tell you it's excellent - although it does require having read the book to truly understand the fast pace. My only gripe was that Emma Watson seemed too emotional as puberty stricken Hermione - she lacked the certain matter of factness that we all love about Hermione. Also, in trying to foreshadow the burgeoning relationship between Ron and Hermione, Mike Newell blatantly emphasised emotions that were only just developing in the book. The absence of S.P.E.W and a deeper storyline with Rita Skeeter and Hermione means that her character is just kind of peripheral and hormonal throughout - Newell didn't pay her nearly enough respect. Further, I think that Newell is one of those delusional Harry/Hermione shippers - it ain't gonna happen! But because of some subtle direction, he's just given fodder to a legion of people that won't get it through their heads that Harry and Hermione will never be more than friends. Daniel Radcliffe though is ace in this movie. The hot factor has definitely zoomed skyward with movie four. Makes me come over all dizzy like.
The fourth one was okay but too much of the bells n whistles of the fourth book without the subtleties, wordplay, wit and even char development. Would have benefited more from a release in two volumes, the first one containing the actual fucking Quidditch World Cup as opposed to a lead up.
Anyway this just supports my whole great books = good films (or ok films or crap films) formula. As the fifth was a good book perhaps better results are to be expected in the fifth film.
But as it stands PoA is still my fav flick, coming in at least a length in front of the pack (of films), with the fourth book as my fav book, though in front of the pack (of books) by a nose. The Chamber of Secrets, the film, broke down in the stretch and had to be shot.
