Ramblings # 1

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

DISCLAIMER: you are hereby warned that spoilers are coming, so don't complain if I ruin the book for you - take responsibility because you ruined the book for you by having no self control!

Several weeks ago I finished JK Rowlings latest installment to the Harry Potter saga and now I need to have somewhat of a rant!

First things first, I really don't like the character of Harry Potter. Over the course of the six books he has become more and more unlikeable. Maybe I'm just insensative to the plight of a teenage wizard in training, but he just irks me!

Second, I refuse to believe that Snape is evil. Granted he has some character flaws and is very vocal in his dislike for Harry (which I believe is justifiable) but evil - PLEASE!!

Thirdly, why kill Dumbledore? Wasn't it enough that in the last book she killed off Sirius. Sure bad things happen but why show that with the murder of one of my favourite characters by another one of my favourite characters.

I really don't know if I want to read the seventh book and if the rumours are true we are going to have a 2 year wait anyway.

Snape should totally be fucking hardcore evil. That would be awesome.

But he's not. And I can point to the various bits of proof. Sadly.

Point taken.

I wouldn't dream of using the 'misunderstood' defence and I suppose it is hard to accept that someone can be truly evil - JKR has herself fostered the idea that Snape is somewhat reformed and now readers are having to get used to the idea that maybe he is not.

I don't think harry potter was enough of a shrinking violet that he needed the death of his father figure to make him stand up to the plate. If anything he neede dumbledore because he is incredibly gun ho.

I was being simplistic but then I was just ramblings and not meant as a critique. I do agree with your reasoning for killing dumbledore and will admit that had not occured to me.

Some of the lovey dovey stuff in this one almost made me wanna put my fingers down my throat, and I hate the whole thing about Snape and Dumbledore dies! But damn her, cos its so unexpected and so damn good.
Harry actually redeemed himself in my eyes a little this book. The last one I had to keep putting down at the beginning because he started grating on my nerves.

Kim. I thought you failed to get through the fifth book because it was too long. Much like a semester at an academic institution (ZING!)And you critising lovey-dovey stuff? At least at no point does anyone say 'I love you' to their cat (ZING! ZING!)

As this blog isnt titled "Zing Kim" I better get to the blog at hand.

Anyway anyone who criticises HP for any flaw apart from perhaps a little too much impulsiveness
(Honestly who goes looking in Pensieves to find out what someone's bad memory is, when they will clearly be back soon???),
doogoodiness and lack of comedic timing (I SOOOOO would have wingardium levosa'd Voldemort's arse in the fourth book. Imagine the Dark Lord being tossed on his arse. Hilarious! Yes Fred and George are my favourite characters. Though I must admit "There's no need to call me Sir" was a pisser!) is not paying attention.

The fact you've missed er...a few finer details of The Half Blood Prince, lends a truckload of support to this view.

To be blunt HP rules about as much as an underage wizard can rule, without him taking on ridiculously unbelievable characteristics or becoming a Fred/George clone, whilst remaining a 'good' wizard.

If you wish to whinge about something Harry Potter related check out the dude playing Victor Krumb in the fourth movie. I don't recall JKR describing VK as looking like "a complete and utter fucking tool" though it would have been amusing.

THe chick playing Fleur, whilst pretty, didn't seem to have the mature looks Id imagined, you know like one of those girls that already look in their mid twenties even though they're still in their late teens? Of course thats open to discussion but I dont think anyone here could seriously venture that either a: They imagined VK looking like a complete fucking tool
or b: The chosen actor does NOT look like a complete fucking tool.

And the Weasley's hair is too long.
But I love how they've taken Ron's er dress robes to the extreme.

Anyway as I always say, it just goes to show that JK should be in charge of the Universe.
The End

My brother has this weird theory about Dumbledore's death... he reckons Dumbledore has his own horcrux residing in Fawkes! Just imagine it... a phoenix with a horcrux! It would be unbreakable because they can't die! Better than Voldemort's stupid 7! Also I think Snape killing Dumbledore was a setup. I reckon Dumbledore asked him to do it because he had a horcrux. Or he could have just been doing the noble thing because if Snape didn't kill him, Snape would have died because of the unbreakable curse. Come to think of it, he would have been saving Malfoy as well. An old man dies, a young boy lives... and a middle-aged snitty professor. That would also be a good plan for infiltrating the death eaters. They'd have no reason to mistrust Snape now. Also, I like Ginny and Harry being together, or at least having had a little bit of time together. Harry seems to be growing up at last and it was about time! Though it was weird characterising it as monster in his stomach....

The monster could have just been indigestion. :)
